I just bought an old vintage stiletto but its dull as hell. I’m wondering how to sharpen it correctly (without screwing up the blade). I have a regular kitchen knife sharpener but don’t know if I should use that. Any ideas?
No its like a long block with like a "V"shaped area to run the blade down.

Since I haven’t had a shot in 16 years,
im wondering if there is any worry from getting a cut (sliced off some skin) from a permanently rusty looking kitchen knife?
(though the knife ive used for years and kept clean, recently sharpened)
for that matter, is there anything wrong with a permanently rusty looking kitchen knife?
its old, but it seems to work fine and no rust stains come off whenever i use it,
but has some orange rustiness to the handle i suppose (wood handle, full tang)

I would like to buy my boyfriend a nice gift and I know he likes knives, I have bought him a Henkle Santoku something I don’t know it was one 5 inch knife for like so it better have been good, he said he liked it and it was very good. Anyways I would like to buy him something to sharpen and hone the knife. Also was thinking maybe buying him another knife. What would I buy that is very good quality for sharpening and honing and where would I find it. Plus what would be another knife he could get a lot of use? He loves to cook. I just want to buy the right thing and I will spend a bit of money but like say no more than 0 for both. We live in Orlando, FL. Thanks so much I have no clue with kitchen stuff.

i really dont know how, i dont think it would work on those long files for knife sharpening, if there is a special thing that does it or a certain technique that i need to use please tell me because i really dont want to get a new one as this one goes well in my kitchen and i cant find them anymore

the first chapter is about the main character carl, who is running away from home because his parents suddenly wanted to murder him. plus the world is going to end in four days, and a meteor is going to hit the earth.
this is about a page of the first chapter tell me how you like it, and what i should improve on

Quickly Carl dashed, his feet flying across the hardened snow. He dodged towering trees, leaped over logs and slowed his pace on the ice. Panting, he finally burst to a stop, unable to run any further. Struggling to catch his breath, Carl settled himself on the snow, and rested his back on the surface of a rough tree trunk. The warmth that had approached him while running, quickly disappeared, leaving Carl rather cold.

Silence filled the lifeless, motionless forest. That was the way it should be right now, quiet. Quiet, so Carl could think.

The recent memories haunted him, and remained vivid within his mind. The memories, where his parents had stormed downstairs, with a sharpened kitchen knife, ready to murder him. Still, the voices of horror continued to scream in Carl’s consciousness. Speaking, they were insulting and swearing, at him. Believe it or not, this was the voice of Carl’s parents.

The scratches, bruises, and bleeding that invested Carl’s arms reminded him of these horrible thoughts.

He had always apprehended, though that his parents had disliked him, ever since he was very young. Though, never did Carl think that they wished to kill him until this moment. Unlike other regular parents, they had never took the time to educate him, about riding a bike, or playing chess. In Carl’s family it was extremely rare to do any sort of activity together, like going to the swimming pool, or traveling out of the country. That was an affair that he had always desired to experience, travelling. Only his parents didn’t invest much fund, and a vacation was none of their interests.

I’m trying a few different methods of sharpening our kitchen knives and they seem pretty sharp to me. But really, how can I tell when I have done an excellent job of it. (Hrnckles knives, BTW).
